HairMax is the laser comb, band and cap brand of Hairmax International, LLC of Boca Raton, Florida, which took the brand over from Lexington International, LLC in an acquisition announced in November 2024; Lexington’s name is on every HairMax 510(k) filing. Its range is five laser combs (the Actonis 18, Ultima 12, Ultima 12 Classic, Pro 12 and Ultima 9 Classic), two flexible LaserBands with 82 and 41 lasers, the PowerFlex 272 cap, the Lumina 272 helmet, and the RegrowMD Laser 272 cap sold under a second label. Every device uses red lasers at 655 nm, with the Actonis adding a second set at 635 nm, and HairMax’s manuals rate each laser under 5 mW and Class 3R. It also sells hair care, minoxidil and supplements.
HairMax’s clearances run from K060305 (2007) to K180885 (2018). K103368 covers its 7-, 9- and 12-laser combs, K142573 the 41- and 82-laser bands, and K180885 the 80-, 202- and 272-laser caps, so the Ultima combs, the Pro 12, both LaserBands, the PowerFlex 272 and the RegrowMD score 7 on verification. The Actonis 18 is listed under three comb filings, none of which describes an 18-laser comb, and the Lumina is listed only under K213025, another maker’s clearance for a 180-diode helmet; both score 2. No measurement of a HairMax device’s output by anyone outside the company has been published.
On hairmax.com the combs list from $249 for the Ultima 9 Classic to $499 for the Actonis 18, the bands at $649 and $849, and the caps and helmet from $1,199 for the RegrowMD to $1,999 for the Lumina. Every device carries a 1-year warranty; out-of-warranty repair costs $75 for a comb, $120 for a band and $150 for a cap or helmet, plus shipping. The 6-month money-back guarantee covers hairmax.com purchases only and keeps a 20 percent fee (25 percent on the RegrowMD page) and return shipping.
Trustpilot rates hairmax.com 4.4 from 424 reviews, with HairMax replying to 92 percent of negative ones, and the BBB rates Hairmax International, LLC A, accredited since July 2026. Owners’ complaints across the pools center on battery life and battery packs, the fit of the one-size bands, units that stop working after the 1-year warranty, and the fee on guarantee returns. Costco’s own review files for HairMax devices, none syndicated, hold a 60 percent recommend rate across 435 reviews.
