Usability
The IRON-HYDRO-10 is aimed at well owners with orange staining and a rotten egg smell, and it is the best documented product APEC sells. Its strongest attribute is that the specification actually states the conditions under which the media works: 10 ppm iron, 3 ppm hydrogen sulfide, 5 ppm manganese, pH between 5.0 and 9.0 and an oxidation reduction potential above negative 170 millivolts. That last figure is the one that decides whether a manganese dioxide bed will work at all on a given well, and most manufacturers in this category do not print it. Its weakest is that APEC quotes service flow as 5 gallons per minute per cubic foot without publishing the bed volume for this model, so the buyer cannot size against peak demand from the specification alone. There is no certification, and a well owner should have a current water test in hand before buying, because the published limits are the whole product.

The APEC Water Systems IRON-HYDRO-10 is a backwashing point-of-entry oxidation filter built on a 9 by 48 inch mineral tank charged with media containing 75 to 85 percent manganese dioxide. APEC states removal capacities of 10 ppm iron, 3 ppm hydrogen sulfide and 5 ppm manganese, with a working pH range of 5.0 to 9.0 and an oxidation reduction potential requirement above negative 170 millivolts. The system weighs 130 pounds and carries a 1 inch MNPT bypass adapter as standard.
