Usability
This is the right media for the job and the wrong amount of evidence behind it. Catalytic carbon is what handles chloramine, which ordinary activated carbon does poorly, so a household on a chloraminated municipal supply is buying the correct technology rather than a marketing name. The Bluetooth valve with user-set backwash and rinse cycles is a genuine efficiency feature on a system that would otherwise waste water on a fixed schedule. Against that, WaterChef publishes no certification of any kind for the ECO-SMART line, no reduction percentage for any contaminant and no media replacement interval, which is a striking gap for a company whose point-of-use range leads with its IAPMO listings. Both sizes are currently out of stock on WaterChef's own site. At $1,184.95 for the 10 GPM configuration the buyer is paying for hardware quality and taking the performance claims on trust.

The TrueHome ECO-SMART Whole House Carbon Filter is a backwashing point-of-entry system built around a Centaur catalytic activated carbon bed in a seamless poly tank, sold in 10 GPM and 15 GPM sizes. The control valve is Bluetooth-enabled, with adjustable backwash and rinse cycles and real-time water usage reporting through a phone app. WaterChef targets chlorine, chloramines, haloacetic acids, herbicides and pesticides on municipally treated supplies. Warranty is seven years on the valve and ten on the tank, both made in the USA.
