FilterSmart FS1500 Whole House Filter and Salt-Free Softener Combo 15 GPM
The 15 GPM dual-tank combo, pairing a larger carbon bed with salt-free scale control for bigger homes.
$2,995
Usability
This is the same dual-tank arrangement as the 12 GPM combo with both tanks stepped up to 10 in by 54 in, and the 600 dollar premium buys contact time rather than capability. That matters on a four to six bathroom house, because both stages depend on contact time: carbon needs bed depth to hold chlorine reduction when several fixtures run at once, and FilterSmart's own figure for TAC is about five seconds of contact against roughly ninety for ion exchange resin. Undersize either stage and performance degrades exactly when the house is busiest. Against competitors it is priced sensibly for what it is, and 2,995 dollars for filtration plus scale control with no salt, no drain and no power is not unreasonable. What you are still not getting is evidence. No NSF or WQA system listing, no reduction percentage for a single named contaminant, and no data on FilterSmart's own conditioner media. The conditioner half remains a conditioner: hardness stays in the water and the test strip still reads hard. Two 58 in tanks and about 30 in by 10 in of floor space is a real constraint - measure before ordering rather than after.
- Treats chlorine, taste and organics as well as scale in one installation
- Larger beds hold performance at high simultaneous draw in a four to six bathroom home
- 1,000,000 gallon or 5 year carbon guarantee, conditioner media not consumed
- No drain, no electricity and no backwash on either tank
- Lifetime warranty on tanks and valve heads
- Cheaper than the FS1000 and FS500 bought separately at the same size
- No system-level NSF/ANSI certification and no published contaminant reduction percentages
- The conditioner half does not soften water or change a hardness reading
- No reduction of lead, PFAS, nitrate, iron, manganese or TDS
- Two tanks about 58 in tall and roughly 30 in by 10 in of floor space, which rules out tight installations
- Conditioner media fouls on iron and hydrogen sulfide, so most untreated wells need pre-treatment
- 600 dollars over the 12 GPM combo for headroom smaller homes will not use
This is the 15 GPM version of the FS1500 dual-tank system, sized for four to six bathroom homes. It pairs a 10 in by 54 in coconut shell carbon tank with a matching TAC conditioner tank, treating chlorine, chloramine and organics in the first stage and scale in the second. A sediment pre-filter housing sits ahead of both. Neither tank uses a drain, electricity or a backwash cycle.
