Mixed-bed DI resin after the membrane drives TDS toward zero – a lab and aquarium spec, not a drinking one.

Near-Zero TDS For Tanks And Espresso, Not For Drinking
Expert Score

The RODI10 is a specialist purchase and should be read that way: reef aquariums, laboratory rinse water, espresso machines and anywhere scale is the enemy. The DI resin removes the residual ions a membrane leaves behind, and the four upstream stages genuinely do extend resin life, which is where the cost case sits against a standalone DI unit. Express Water also markets it for softening at the point of use without adding sodium, which is accurate but only covers what comes out of that one faucet. The problem is that near-zero TDS water is flat, mildly aggressive to plumbing metals, and is not what most people want to drink daily - and the DI resin is a fast-exhausting consumable whose life depends entirely on incoming TDS. Buy this because you have a tank or a machine to feed, not because more purification sounds better.

PROS
  • Mixed-bed DI stage drives TDS far below what a membrane alone achieves
  • Four upstream stages protect the resin and lower cost per gallon versus standalone DI
  • Genuinely useful for reef tanks, espresso machines and lab rinse water
  • Point-of-use softening without adding sodium
  • Shares housings and cartridges with the rest of the Express Water range
CONS
  • DI water is flat to drink and mildly aggressive to plumbing metals
  • Resin life is entirely dependent on incoming TDS and no capacity figure is published
  • No NSF listing of any kind
  • One-year warranty
  • 50-100 GPD production with a one to three gallon drain ratio
  • Extra consumable cost on top of an already six-cartridge system

The RODI10 places a mixed-bed deionisation resin cartridge after the reverse osmosis membrane, driving total dissolved solids toward zero rather than the 90-98 percent reduction a membrane alone achieves. Express Water positions the four pre-DI stages as protection that extends resin life and lowers cost per gallon against deionisation alone. Production is 50-100 GPD into a 4-gallon tank with about 3.2 gallons usable.

Social Scores

Social Score

Product-level where an independent pool exists, brand-level elsewhere. Express Water publishes its own rating widget on every product page; that is the manufacturer's own data and is not scored here.

Reddit Score6.0

Brand-level. r/WaterTreatment threads recommend Express Water RO for taste and value while calling the install more involved than rivals and noting the cabinet space the tank demands. No thread found addressing the deionisation variant specifically; homebrewing and reef discussions of RO/DI generally do not name this model.

Google Score6.0

Brand-level. Editorial coverage puts Express Water at the budget end of the multi-stage under-sink category and returns repeatedly to the certification gap: only RO5DX and RO10DX appear in NSF's database, both for TDS reduction alone. Build quality and price score well, evidence for the published contaminant lists does not.

YouTube Score8.0

Product-line. Hands-on videos of the tank-based Express Water RO platform report clean taste, quiet operation and predictable upkeep. Reviewers consistently flag the 40-80 PSI operating window and advise a booster pump below it.

Amazon Score9.0

Product-line. Express Water RO ASINs pool faucet finishes and filter-set bundles, so ratings describe the line rather than a single SKU. The core RO listing carries thousands of reviews in the mid-four-star range; the Amazon page does not extract cleanly, so treat the aggregate as approximate.
