Kala is the trading name of Kala Therapy Inc. of Etobicoke, Ontario, founded in 2019 by Cam Stajer, who appeared on CBC’s Dragons’ Den with co-founder Landon Schiller, and named Team Canada’s official wellness and recovery partner in January 2026. It does not make its light devices: FDA’s records name Shenzhen Kaiyan Medical Equipment Co., Ltd. as the maker of its face mask, wand, Mini 2.0, neck device, hat and wrap, and list its Pro and Elite panels under the registration of Shenzhen Saidi Light Therapy Technology. It sells from kalaredlight.com, on Amazon US, and on Costco.com, which carries the Pro and Elite panels.
Three Kala devices are tied to 510(k) clearances held by Kaiyan rather than by Kala: the face mask to K250581 (May 2025), the Therapy Wand to K250761 (July 2025), whose summary describes no microcurrent mode, and the Mini 2.0 to K251781 (September 2025). FDA lists the hat under K230597, a clearance for a 22-LED comb, and the neck device and wrap as exempt lamps; the Quad and Sauna Panel have no FDA record, though every Kala product page shows an FDA Cleared badge. Intertek’s directory lists Kala Therapy Inc.’s Elite, Pro and Quad as ETL-listed luminaires to UL 1598. Light Therapy Insiders, a market-wide tester with a Kala affiliate link, measured the Elite at 84 mW/cm2 averaged at 6 inches in 2024, against Kala’s stated 161, and the face mask at 26 mW/cm2 over its LEDs in 2025. Health Canada licenses eight Kala devices and lists a 2025 recall of one lot of the face mask over an unclear manual.
The ten Kala light devices compared here run on kalaredlight.com from $169.99 for the wand to $4,499.99 for the Quad: the Pro, Elite and Sauna panels at $589.99, $1,139.99 and $1,249.99, the Mini 2.0, face mask, neck device and hat at $339.99 each, and the Restore Wrap at $419.99. Two Elites sell together as the Elite Duo for $2,119.99. Kala also sells an infrared sauna, a sauna blanket, a light therapy lamp for seasonal use, a PEMF mat and a pet bed. Every device carries a 2-year limited warranty, and returns are taken within 30 days less a $15 restocking fee, except the items its returns page lists as final sale: the mask, neck device, wand, wrap, hat and Quad.
Kala holds 3.1 from 2 Trustpilot reviews in October 2026, both of them two-star or below, and the BBB rates Kala Therapy Inc. F, not accredited, with 51 complaints in three years. On Amazon US the Pro reads 4.6 from 38 ratings and the face mask 4.1 from 24, and on Costco.com the Elite reads 3.9 from 11 member reviews.
