Capillus is the Miami maker of laser caps worn under a sport cap, trading through Capillus, LLC and its operating company Curallux, LLC, which holds the FDA registration and sells the caps on Amazon. Its hair devices are the PRO (272 lasers), the PRO S1 (304), the Spectrum and TriSpectrum (312 each, with 40 near-infrared lasers), the MD DUO (320), the 82-laser HairBand and the 32-diode Red Light Brush; every cap runs an auto-timed 6-minute session from a separate battery pack, and every cap page but the TriSpectrum’s states 5 mW, Class 3R lasers. It also sells a face mask, an eye device, a panel, a mat, a body wrap, a full-body pod and devices for pets.
Capillus’s seven 510(k) clearances, from 2015 to 2019, name caps with 82 to 352 lasers, and the two that the current caps are listed under, K162994 and K163170, describe 650 nm lasers only. The 272-laser PRO matches the cap those filings describe. The FDA registration lists the PRO S1, Spectrum, TriSpectrum and MD DUO under two of the same clearances, but none of those filings describes a 304- or 320-laser cap or any near-infrared laser, so those four score at the floor on verification. Capillus sells the HairBand as a general wellness device and states that it is not FDA cleared, and no filing names the brush. No independent measurement of a Capillus device’s output has been published.
On capillus.com the caps list from $1,699 for the PRO to $3,699 for the MD DUO, the HairBand at $599.99 and the brush at $225; the PRO S1 is sold out there and sold on Amazon at $2,199. The caps carry a 3-year warranty, 5 years on the MD DUO, with one year on the battery pack and adapter; the HairBand carries one year and the brush 60 days. The 6-month satisfaction guarantee applies only to purchases on capillus.com and deducts a 25 percent service fee plus return shipping.
Owners’ complaints across the pools center on battery packs, including discontinued packs for older caps, a single regular cap size, and refunds. Trustpilot rates capillus.com 4.4 from 1,626 reviews, a profile Capillus invites customers to, and the BBB lists the company as Curallux LLC, not accredited, graded D- with 11 complaints in three years and a note that it will not resolve disputes through the BBB. Costco’s own review files for five older Capillus caps, no longer on sale there, hold a 58 percent recommend rate.
